How to read a paper

Coming soon…

In this workbook I have bundled all of my experience and expertise in reading and evaluating scientific articles in psychology and neuroscience. I give you advice on how to find information online and evaluate its trustworthiness. I teach you about different types of research papers and what can be concluded from them. I take you through a typical scientific article, explain what the purpose of each section is, how to understand it and how to judge its quality.

I also talk about the context in which scientific articles are published: The academic system, the publishing and reviewing system, what gets rewarded and where the attention goes. It’s important to consider research in this context and that is easily overlooked.

At the end of the workbook, I include a worksheet that you can use the next time you read a paper, and any time after that.

What early reviewers say:

“A wonderful resource”

“I can’t believe this isn’t taught in my university course”

“I super-love it”

This is a truly unique resource, one that I have never seen anywhere else. Some of this information is taught in university courses but most of it comes from my years of experience as a scientist - applying for funding, running studies, publishing articles and reviewing other people’s articles for journals.

This workbook is included in the Journal Club membership! So if you’re already a member, go to the Journal Club space and find it there. And if you’re not a member yet, why not sign up and practice reading papers together?
